United Kingdom peerage creations 1801 to 2024: a list compiled by David BeamishThis page lists peers who have given up their membership of the House of Lords (and in the case of disclaimers their titles) in one of the ways described at the head of each of the five lists:
In addition to those included in the lists below, it may be noted that, according to the House of Lords website, the 7th Marquess of Cholmondeley ceased to be a member on 8 September 2022. House of Lords Standing Order 9(2)(iii), implementing section 2 of the House of Lords Act 1999, provides for "any peer holding the office of Earl Marshal or performing the office of Lord Great Chamberlain" to be excepted from the exclusion of hereditary peers provided for in that Act. The Marquess of Cholmondeley ceased to be Lord Great Chamberlain on the death of HM Queen Elizabeth II. His successor as Lord Great Chamberlain, the 7th Lord Carrington, was already a member of the House by virtue of election in a by-election in 2018.
The Peerage Act 1963 made provision for the disclaimer of certain hereditary peerages for the lifetime of the disclaimant. The effect was to remove the title as well as (until 1999) membership of the House of Lords. The dates in the left-hand column are those of the notices in the London Gazette, and the dates link to the online PDF of the relevant Gazette page, except in the case of the most recent disclaimer (2002), which was not gazetted, where the link is to the notification in the House of Lords Journals.

The Constitutional Reform and Governance Act 2010 made provision for members of the House of Lords to be treated for tax purposes as "resident, ordinarily resident and domiciled in the United Kingdom" (section 41), and made consequential transitional provision (section 42) for a member wishing to avoid the application of section 41 to resign from membership of the House of Lords within three months of the provision coming into force. Five peers (all life peers) made use of section 42. The date links to the notification in the House of Lords Journals.

In 2011, pursuant to the Procedure Committee's 5th Report, session 2010–12, the House of Lords introduced an informal "voluntary retirement scheme", under which a member of the House could "at any time, write to the Clerk of the Parliaments indicating his or her wish permanently to retire from the service of the House". Retirement under the scheme has no legal force. The scheme was discontinued on the enactment of the House of Lords Reform Act 2014. Four peers retired under the scheme. The date given is that on which the Lord Speaker informed the House of the retirement, and the link is to the record thereof in the House of Lords Journals.

The House of Lords Reform Act 2014 made provision for members to leave the House of Lords through resignation (section 1), non-attendance (section 2 – see below), and conviction of a serious offence (section 3). There have as yet been no cases of members leaving the House under section 3. A member giving notice of resignation must state the date on which the resignation is to take effect, and that date is given in the left-hand column below, with a link to the Lord Speaker's announcement of the resignation or (when the resignation has not yet taken effect) to the notice of resignation in the House of Lords Minutes of Proceedings.

Section 2 of the House of Lords Reform Act 2014 made provision for peers to be excluded from the House of Lords for non-attendance throughout a Parliamentary session (subject to certain exceptions including peers on leave of absence). The provision first took effect at the end of the 2015–16 session. The date given in the left-hand column below is that of the first day of the first session when the peer was excluded, with a link to the Lord Speaker's announcement thereof.
